Professor of the University of Barcelona Gave a Master Class for SFedU Students

Robots and art. Is there anything in common between them? On December 5, students of SFedU had the opportunity to get acquainted with the history of robotics and its reflection in the arts, to talk to the professor of the Department of Design and Image of the University of Barcelona (Spain), artist Ricardo Iglesias.

Master class named “Art and robotics: technology as aesthetic experimentation” (Arte y robótica: La tecnología como experimentación estética) was organized by the Institute of Philosophy and Social and Political Studies of the Southern Federal University in cooperation with the International Center for Education and Ibero-American Studies as a part of the 2nd National Scientific Conference with international participation “Utopian projects in the history of culture” on the topic of “City of the Sun”: in search of the perfect locus.” The open event brought together a wide audience. 

The meeting was attended by students of different departments: sociology, philology, political and cultural sciences.  In the first part of his speech, Ricardo Iglesias told the audience about the history of robotics from Antiquity down to our days. The second part was devoted to the reflection of robotics in the arts.

At the end of the meeting, Professor R. Iglesias spoke about his own projects. The meeting was held in a bilingual format. Professor R. Iglesias communicated with the audience in Spanish and English. At the end of the master class, the attendees had the opportunity to ask questions. Students were interested in the Spanish guest's view on various problems: from the future of robotics to its embodiment in modern cinema.
